In stark contrast to the majority of garden decks you may have seen, we offer a completely bespoke timber decking design and build service. Our decks tend to be much larger than your average DIY-store kit deck, as we design each one with your needs in mind, and to fit the exact requirements of your garden. Decks don’t have to sit outside your patio doors – although it’s an obvious choice – but can be located anywhere. Many clients choose to locate theirs where they will get the last of the evening sunshine, even if that’s at the back of the garden!
If your garden is steeply sloping, a deck can provide the ideal solution to the changes in level and help you to re-claim your space in a practical way. The introduction of curves into the design can be a good way of making the deck into a striking feature, particularly if curves are used elsewhere within the garden. Lighting, too, can be used to great effect – especially if you like to stay outdoors on warm, summer evenings.
Properly constructed, treated softwood decking will satisfy the vast majority of clients’ wishes. Tanalised (pressure treated) timber will last for years and years. We recommend giving a protective coat of oil each year. This will increase the water-repellancy of the wood, therefor helping maintain its appearance. Hardwood decking is longer-lasting and more expensive, however you can really appreciate the difference in the look of the finished project. We only recommend the use of oils to treat the decking boards. A coloured finish inevitably wears off, resulting in a patchy, scruffy appearance, so we don’t use them.
We pride ourselves in the quality of our decks. From the choice of materials to the attention to detail we bring into every element of the build. Each cut surface is treated with end-grain preservative, and all components are corrosion-resistant. We use stainless steel fixings where possible, ensuring long life and an attractive finish.
The most important part of any deck is the area you can’t even see! The frame, joists and supports provide strength and structural integrity, therefor it is critical that these are well-constructed.
