The sun is shining at Tout Quarry Sculpture Park today, so it’s a nice day for cotoneaster management. We have been trying out Shane’s high tech quad copter to capture some video and stills footage of the team at work. It is early days yet, but there is clearly great potential for the kit to be put to good use here, showcasing the ongoing habitat management around Portland. You may have seen the recent BBC Countryfile episode showcasing the natural history and rugged beauty of the Isle of Portland. If you did, you may recall the short piece about this Dorset Wildlife Trust-led project, featuring Sam Hamer, the project manager. He demonstrated the innovative use of a zip wire to capture aerial video footage to document and evidence the progress of the cotoneaster management, and we are hoping to contribute to the documentary record yet further with the help of the new quad copter.
